I know I should write everyday. I know I should be more disciplined and have a fixed time to write. Eat my vegetables, drink more water to flush my kidney stones, yada yada. But there is way too much to do in a day. I hear the cautions of full-time writers telling me that in order to write I must make the time. I don’t know where to steal the time from to make it “writing time.” Between keeping a house, working part-time, looking for work, paying bills, and living, I just can’t seem to figure out where to put the work. There are pieces scattered all over the house. Some are not even typed up yet. Where do I begin? Perhaps for now drinking a glass of water and going to bed.
You are the fourth person I’ve talked to who is thinking about this, this month! And I’m one of them! Just keep seeking and you’ll find the time. It took me two or three years to build up a regular habit of writing three pages every morning, but that’s been the jumping-off point for so many other good habits. 🙂
Oh and I’ll be in Berkeley on Friday if you’re free! 🙂
The answer will come to you. For me, the answer comes in sleeping irregular hours, writing while commuting, writing at lunch, and again being unafraid of a lack of sleep.
